Each year when chick season approaches, it feels like the beginning of something important on our farm.
There is the planning, the preparation, the brooders warming, and the anticipation of raising another batch of birds well — not quickly, not industrially, but intentionally.
For the 2026 season, we are raising White Ranger broilers, a slower-growing breed known for excellent flavor and strong, healthy development. We chose this breed because we care about both quality and integrity. Slower growth allows the birds to develop properly, move well on pasture, and produce a better finished product for your table.
How We Raise Our Chickens
Our chickens are raised right here on pasture at Heritage Home Family Farm.
They are:
- Moved daily to fresh grass
- Given access to sunshine and open air
- Allowed to scratch, forage, and live as chickens were designed to
We supplement their diet with a non-GMO, soy-free, corn-free broiler feed sourced locally from Wagon Wheel Farms in Bliss, Idaho. Supporting local agriculture matters to us, and so does knowing exactly what goes into the feed our animals consume.
As a family, we are hands-on in the entire process — from the day the chicks arrive to the day the finished birds go home with you. When it comes time for processing, everything is done right here on our farm. This allows for a low-stress, calm environment, which we believe results in a cleaner, better-tasting chicken.
We would never sell something we wouldn’t feed our own children.
Why We Offer Pre-Orders
We raise a limited number of birds each batch so we can maintain the quality and care we believe in. Because of this, we open pre-orders in advance.
Each pickup date is limited to 75 whole chickens, averaging approximately 5 pounds each.
Pre-ordering:
- Guarantees your chicken from that batch
- Helps us plan responsibly
- Ensures we raise exactly what our community needs
Many families choose to purchase multiple birds at once to stock their freezer. Average-sized families typically reserve 4–8 chickens per batch, especially if they want to stretch their supply through the season.
2026 Pickup Dates
Chickens will be available for pickup at our Farmstand on:
Each chicken is $27 total, with a $13.50 deposit due at reservation and the remaining balance due at pickup.
